Prof. Peer Schenk
Chief Scientific Officer
Peer has over 21 years experience in plant and microalgal biotechnology and was the first to discover that plant viruses produce miRNAs. Peer worked at the Max-Planck Institute for Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany, for 5 years on Barley yellow mosaic virus genes and their role in host-virus interactions. He has over 90 refereed publications.
Dr. Richard Moyle
Richard has over 13 years experience in plant molecular biology and biotechnology. Richard’s main research themes have involved studying the control of gene expression in plants, including the analysis of promoter control via small RNAs. Richard has published more than 25 research articles.
Dr. James Williams
James is a Founder and Investment Director of Yuuwa Capital LP, a venture capital firm based in Western Australia. Prior to establishing Yuuwa Capital, James was Managing Director of two medical device companies, ASX-listed Resonance Health Ltd and Argus Biomedical Pty Ltd, both of which took their products to market under his guidance, and CEO of drug discovery company Dimerix Bioscience Pty Ltd. He also conceived, co-founded and was CSO and Director of iCeutica, Inc., a clinical stage nano drug reformulation company that was acquired in 2011. James is currently a Director of a number of unlisted companies and member of the “Panel of Experts” for the University of Western Australia’s Pathfinder Fund.
Duncan is a Director – Commercial Engagement (Agriculture & Food) at UniQuest. Duncan brings over 15 years experience in industry and commercially focussed research collaboration, investment, IP management and commercialisation to the UniQuest agriculture and food portfolio.
Prior to joining UniQuest, he held commercialisation and business management roles in research and investment organisations, including BSES Limited, Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries and Meat and Livestock Australia. He has managed technologies across animal and plant supply chains, including genetic and genomic tools, pest and disease control, breeding, automation and robotics, value-added food products, biopharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals.
Dr. John Kurek
John is the Biotechnology Investment Manager at Uniseed, a venture fund operating at the Universities of Melbourne, Queensland and New South Wales, with investment capital provided by the three universities and AustralianSuper – a leading industry superannuation fund. He has 15 years industry experience as a Biotechnology Manager with a focus on the strategic design and implementation of drug development programs. John’s previous roles have included Pharmaceutical Development Manager at BioDiem Ltd, where he was responsible for managing the preclinical, clinical and regulatory aspects of BioDiem’s drug development programs, and Preclinical Development Manager at Amrad Corporation Ltd where he was responsible for the management of preclinical drug development projects.
